Denver Colorado’s Dragon Boat Festival Is The Best!

There are several fascinating and intriguing things to discover in Denver, Colorado, including the Colorado Dragon Boat Festival! The Colorado Dragon Boat Festival, which has been held every year since 1997 at Sloan's Lake Park, will be back on July 23 and 24, 2022. After two years of COVID-19 cancellations and toxic algae bloom, the park will be packed with dragon boat races, fantastic cuisine, an Asian market, limitless activities, and thousands of community members congregating for a long-awaited annual event.

There will be something for everyone at the event, with over 40 racing teams, 20+ food vendors, 50+ marketplace merchants, and live music. This enclosed event is free to attend, but any monetary donations are appreciated to help with the organization and programming.

The Shaolin Hung Mei Kung Fu will be parading its 75 foot long, brilliant, traditional Chinese Dragon through Sloan Lake Park, which represents "chasing away evil energies," and "bestowing prosperity and good fortune on all of the race teams, vendors, and spectators."

The Dragon will be illuminated on the roof of Team City, and all of the competitors will line up behind it as it goes by the Band Stage, where each team will be introduced. A narrator will explain the history and culture of Dragon Boat racing before a Buddhist Monk and congregation reciting a formal blessing for the event.

Teams will compete in a two-day fast-paced dragon boat racing event. After popular demand, the Taiwanese-style boats are making a comeback. Each craft will have 18 paddlers, one drummer, and one flag grabber. Attend the finish line to witness the thrilling moment when the flag grabber leans out and snatches the banner to win the race!

At the Taste of Asia Food Court, visitors may sample dishes from all across the continent while shopping till they drop. At the Taste Of Asia Food Court, festival-goers can satisfy their hunger with Asian specialties from all around the world! From throughout Asia and the Pacific, food vendors will display a plethora of delectable food! There's something for everyone. Vendors may also sell items comparable to those found in open-air street markets all across Asia at the Marketplace, which is also home to a plethora of one-of-a-kind arts and crafts.

The three Performance Stages, which will include traditional and contemporary Asian and Asian-American instrumental, vocal, choral, and dance performances by well-known local artists, will have everyone's feet tapping and body swaying. Denver Taiko, Halau Kalama, and Mudra Dance performed Japanese Taiko drumming in the past. This is something you don't want to miss!
